The Cooper Car Company was founded in 1946 by Charles Cooper and son John Cooper, where they started building race cars from Charles small garage in Surbiton, Surrey. The 1950s and early 1960s, saw them reach auto racings highest levels as their rear-engined, single-seat cars altered the face of Formula One, the Indianapolis 500, and Mini Cooper’s dominated Rally racing. Taking on the big guns in 1959 and 1960, winning the coveted Formula 1 World Championships, Jack Brabham becoming double world Champion with the Cooper T51 and T53 taking the honour of manufacturer titles. Thanks in part to Coopers legacy, Britain remains the home of a thriving racing industry. The Cooper name lives on through BMW MINI Cooper and the Cooper Car Company.
