The Artificial Intelligence Lab of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, founded in 1983 by Prof. Dr. Luc Steels, is the first AI lab on the European mainland. It is especially recognized for its expertise in reinforcement learning, precision natural language processing (including the evolution of language and speech) and computational creativity. During its history, it has combined fundamental research with applied research in collaboration with the private sector.
